City Council At-Large Candidate Forum
March 24, 2006

When Councilman Richard Skorman resigned to take a position with US Senator Ken Salazar, the City Council needed to appoint a replacement.  To help make their decision, they took applications from citizens.  About 36 citizens applied.  On March 24th, the Council held a public forum where 29 candidates gave a 3-minute talk on their qualifications.

This is a video of my 3-minute presentation.

City Council Swearing In

I received votes from five of the councilmembers in an informal vote on March 25th.  At the formal Council meeting on March 28th, I was officially voted on to Council and sworn in.  Many of my friends and family were present.  Councilman Randy Purvis, who supported a very liberal woman, Ann Oatman-Gardner, spent several minutes saying why he was not voting for me.

City Council Meeting
October 23, 2006

On Thursday, October 19, 2006, the City Manager spoke about issues 200/201 at a luncheon.  He referred to the author, Douglas Bruce, in uncomplimentary terms.  The following Sunday, the Colorado Springs Gazette had a editorial criticizing the City Manager for speaking out and called for City Council to fire him.

At the informal Council meeting on October 23rd, some Council members, including me, responded to this editorial.

Issues 200 and 201 were defeated on a 2 - 1 vote in November.
